Building Holistic Foundations: Social-Emotional and Play-Based Learning in Early Childhood

Friday, 7 March 11:40-12:40

This session will focus on integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and play-based

approaches to support the holistic development of early childhood learners. Recognizing that the early years are foundational, SEL practices can help children develop essential self-regulation, empathy, and social awareness. Meanwhile, play-based learning allows young learners to engage in exploration and discovery, building cognitive skills naturally and joyfully. This session aims to equip educators with effective SEL strategies and practical techniques for creating structured play activities that promote collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.

Key Takeaways

Participants will learn:

  1. How to incorporate SEL into daily routines to enhance emotional well-being, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills.

  2. Techniques for designing play-based activities that encourage exploration, social skills, and independent thinking.

  3. The importance of combining SEL and play-based learning to build resilient, capable, and connected young learners.

Connection to Holistic Learning

This session aligns with the holistic education framework by supporting young learners in their emotional, social, and cognitive growth. Through SEL and play-based approaches, educators can create a nurturing environment that encourages self-awareness, empathy, and curiosity - skills essential for lifelong learning and social engagement.
