Bridging Data and Educational Practice: Collaboration between admissions and teaching staff to support multilingual learners and foster belonging

Friday, 7 March 12:40-13:40

In today's globalized educational landscape, international schools are home to diverse students from a wide range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Recognizing the unique challenges and opportunities within these classrooms, the Admissions Office has partnered with a Linguistic Research and Development Specialist to present a dynamic workshop focused on empowering educators to effectively support multilingual learners.

This partnership is rooted in a shared commitment to inclusive education. By uniting the Admissions Office’s insights on student demographics and the Linguistic Specialist’s expertise, we aim to build a bridge that equips all educators with tools and strategies to support multilingual learners across the curriculum. This collaborative effort emphasizes that a supportive educational experience for multilingual students requires a whole-school approach where every teacher is empowered to contribute to students' linguistic and academic success.

Objective

To inform and inspire educators about the role of data and inclusive practices in supporting multilingual learners. The aim is to build a shared understanding of the importance of linguistic diversity, while presenting practical strategies for creating a welcoming school environment where every multilingual student feels valued and supported.

Outcome Goals

By the end of the presentation, educators should:

  • Recognize the value of Admissions data in understanding and supporting multilingual learners.

  • Be inspired to implement inclusive teaching practices that foster a genuine sense of belonging.

  • Commit to collaboration with colleagues across departments to ensure multilingual students feel fully supported, both academically and socially
