ABOUT THE SCHOOL


The Kumon Leysin Academy of Switzerland (KLAS), a coeducational, Japanese-English bilingual boarding high school, is seeking an experienced IB Diploma programme coordinator. KLAS has gained IB Diploma Program (IBDP) candidacy status. The role will include a teaching allocation, which will be determined based on the best fit for the candidate and the school (e.g., this could range from 50% to 75%) during the candidacy status.

 

Founded in 1990, KLAS follows a Japanese-English bilingual program. It is accredited by, and follows a curriculum approved by, the Japanese Ministry of Education, but particular emphasis is put on the study of English.

ABOUT THE POSITION


The successful candidate will join the leadership team. The IB coordinator’s main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


IB Leadership & Planning

  • Oversight of policy development

  • Management of general programme administration and communications 


Curriculum & Resource Development

  • Advise on appropriate resources and community partnerships to support DP

  • Oversee DP assessment, internal standardization, and EE process

  • Lead DP authorization and evaluation processes


Professional Development

  • Recommend and coordinate DP-related training and workshops

  • Track staff participation and encourage engagement with the wider IB community

  • Suggest eligible staff for IB workshops or curriculum development roles


Administration

  • Serve as the main contact with IB offices

  • Supervise DP staff and academic integrity

  • Manage all DP exams and result reporting

  • IB budget management

  • Support CAS, TOK, and ATTL implementation

  • Coordinate DP registration, scheduling, and teacher observations

  • Communicate with parents and students; assist with university applications

  • Participate in DP teacher recruitment


Communication & Collaboration

  • Keep parents informed of student progress

  • Support and mentor DP teachers; ensure programme alignment with IB standards

  • Foster a collaborative and collegial working environment with DP staff and other coordinators


Documentation

  • Maintain and share up-to-date IB DP publications with relevant stakeholders

  • Ensure accurate DP information is reflected in all school communications and marketing materials


Furthermore, standard boarding school responsibilities for all teaching staff at KLAS include, but are not limited to:

  • evaluating students up to 5 times a year

  • writing reports to parents up to five times a year

  • following an existing syllabus and set text

  • working with colleagues who teach the same course within the same grade

  • overnight dorm supervision (about once a month)

  • supervision of students on restriction (once or twice a year)

  • supervision of school trips (both day and overnight)

  • pastoral care of students in the form of homeroom and faculty family

  • supervision of a club, often on a weekend

  • supervision of a sports activity, usually once a week after school

 

An understanding of and appreciation for Japanese culture is certainly advantageous, but the successful candidate is not expected to have any knowledge of the Japanese language.
