Teacher of Learning Support 100%

At the International School of Lausanne, we have a range of students presenting with a variety of additional learning needs. This position is part of the strategic expansion of the student support services department, as we aim to provide an outstanding level of support for students with dyslexia, ADHD and those identified as high potential.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a similar role, have a good understanding of the needs of students with dyslexia, ADHD and/ or high potential, and be willing to continue to develop their expertise in one of these areas. The new post holder will join an experienced student support services team across the school.

Reports to: Head of Student Support Services 

Main responsibilities: 

Teaching and Learning 

  • Identify the most effective teaching approaches for students with additional needs so as to provide consistently high-quality teaching 
  • Plan and deliver both individualised and small group lessons to support students with additional learning needs
  • Liaise with staff from the primary and secondary schools to implement and support interventions 
  • Work closely with teachers and learning support assistants in ensuring that suitably differentiated material and learning pathways are provided to challenge all students regardless of ability 
  • Collect and interpret specialist assessment data and use this to inform appropriate intervention 
  • Have experience using research-based intervention programmes
  • Maintain consistent and thorough data in accordance with students’ support plans 
  • Develop, maintain, and report on support plans for students in the programme in collaboration with Student Support Services 
  • Liaise in a timely way with individual parents on student progress 

Working with staff 

  • Encourage and support all members of staff in working with students with additional needs 
  • Contribute to and lead training opportunities for members of staff to learn about additional learning needs 
  • To be involved with in-school training initiatives to share and develop effective teaching strategies and resources among teachers. 

Qualifications and Qualities desired 

  • A recognised teaching qualification (graduate or postgraduate level)
  • Specialist qualification in dyslexia, ADHD or high potential would be an advantage 
  • High proficiency in English. Knowledge of French is an advantage
  • The ability to plan, deliver and evaluate lessons that stimulate and motivate students to learn
  • Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes
  • An understanding of and sensitivity to cultural variance; a work experience in an international environment would be an advantage
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and dynamism
  • Ability to make good use of ICT as a teaching and learning resource and for professional practice 
  • A commitment to self-reflection and professional development
