The RFU Coach Licence is the industry standard qualification for teachers coaching the game in school. It is only available for coaches who are working in schools. The course is intended to build confidence in inexperienced coaches, who are presenting the game to children from ages 12-18. No previous experience of rugby coaching is essential. The course considers how the approach of the teacher can significantly influence the attitude of players and address their reservations about the safety side of the game. It will focus on core skills and familiarisation activities, through which players and coaches increase confidence and create a game based on skill and evasion that can appeal to all shapes and sizes. There is emphasis
on introducing contact and scrum safely. Refereeing in front of audiences of parents is a major concern for many inexperienced rugby coaches. This course helps teachers build their own confidence and addresses the issue of how the school referee can keep the game safe and encourage flowing play whilst keeping parents happy.
